November Letter from the Editor

To my friends and fellow aviary enthusiasts, welcome!

The online magazine that you are about to read, is for you!  It is filled with information, fun facts, events, and serious articles that I hope you will enjoy.  Our endeavor here at Aviary Enthusiast is to produce a tool that you can use for enjoyment, for teaching and learning from, as well as finding aviary related resources.

Each month we will bring you new and exciting photographs and articles designed to entice you into visiting new locations in your travels or to help provide a home to injured or abandoned birds.

Here at Aviary Enthusiast we support conservation and rescue efforts, no matter how large or small.  We can all help in one way or another, from providing funding to an agency that cares for abandoned birds or injured non-releasable wild birds or to assist in restoring natural or native habitats that were destroyed.  Articles on different rehabilitation facilities and restoration efforts will be regular features. Links to their respective websites will be provided as well as contact information so that you may assist through donations or volunteering if you are able.

Bird shows and special aviary events and even wild bird releases (if possible) will be made available as we are made aware of them. Special conservation events like habitat restorations that need volunteers will be included. Please feel free to send us events in your area with links to websites or online flyers so that we can include them.

Aviary Enthusiast is about Aviaries, their keepers, and the flying critters (more about these in later issues!) in them.
Aviary Enthusiast is about conservation and rescue.
Aviary Enthusiast is about you. Remember…if it has wings, and you’ve got it caged, then you are an Aviary Enthusiast.

Please note: Aviary Enthusiast does not endorse keeping wild birds or any other wild animals without first obtaining the proper permits and/or licenses and training. Refer to federal and state regulations for guidance. Keep in mind, when wild animals are easy to approach, it is likely they are sick or injured. Only trained handlers should approach these animals to assist them to avoid further stress and injury to the animal and/or the human that means well. Local humane societies are usually the easiest to reach in an emergency situation and often have rescue contacts avaialble quickly.
